Leaving the sea behind and taking the road that from the centre of Carrara climbs up into the Apuan Alps, you are struck by the majesty of these mountains, dotted with nineteenth century bridges which used to form the route of the Marble railway, and with the famous caves of Polvaccio, where Michelangelo used to go himself in order to choose the blocks of marble for his works us The David.

On the road, with its splendid views, there are many traditional lard makers. We will stop in one of them to taste the famous seasoned lard of Colonnata. There will also be an opportunity to taste some, as well as some locally produced salami.

Later we will visit both Tellaro, pearl of the Gulf of Poets, and  than  Lerici, one of the most famous villages in Liguria, which inspired famous poets like Lord Byron, Mary Shelley e Percy Bysshe Shelley.
